So as many of you know Bobby and I are new to the whole parenting thing and the concept of "baby proofing". We have a dog. It can't be much different than "puppy proofing" Right? For example, keep all shoes out of the way-Check, spray bitter apple on wooden surfaces-Check, tape down puppy pads to prevent chewing-Check, and when all else fails tie the trainee to the doorknob-Check, check!
So we have it covered. No, No, NO! There's a whole market that caters to the idea of baby proofing: outlet covers, corner bumpers, baby gates, toilet locks, door knob covers. The list is endless. Does a baby really need all this protection?
Bobby and I lagged on preparing our home for baby. We are aware that our home is a danger zone of sharp corners, fragile objects teetering on shelves, exposed outlets, and the ever entertaining toilet. None of this really bothered us. We'd say in passing "Oh we should really baby proof our home..." But it would fall on deaf ears until...this past Saturday.
Typically Piper plays with the outlets. I don't mind her doing it. (Stop judging) It makes her happy to play with the outlets. Well, Piper was playing with the outlets and Bobby looked at me and said the all too familiar phrase "We should baby proof our house." "Yeah, uh-uh. Sure. You want to do it now?" "Yeah, we can." So I proceed to find another comfortable position on the couch when I realize that my metal hair pins, which were placed on the arm of couch, are no longer there. Oh no! Sense the urgency, a metal hair pin is somewhere on the ground within Piper's tiny grasp. Metal hair pins fit nicely into the outlets. Metal hair pins conduct electricity. Frantically, I searched for the metal hairpins. No luck!
Needless to say, we made an impromptu trip to our local Target and proceeded to buy outlet covers. We immediately covered all outlets within her reach. We are such good parents:)
PS. We even looked at baby gates.
